My Grading System

A+ = Masterpiece (I hold back on this one.) / A = Great. / A- = Really Good. / B+ = Good. / B = Decent (Serviceable). / B- = Flawed but okay (For those times there's something redeeming about the work). / C+ = Not very good (Skip it). C = Bad. / C- = Awful. / F = Complete Disaster (I hold back on this one too).

Note on Spoilers: I will try to avoid ruining a story by going into too much detail. But if I wish to include some revealing points to my analysis I will try to remember to add a separate spoiler paragraph.

Moneyball (2011)

Who would have thought a movie about baseball with barely any actual baseball would turn out as exciting and inspiring as this film is.  Based on the book by Michael Lewis about how General Manager of the Oakland Athletics, Billy Bean, set out to change the way a baseball team is put together, with the aid of computer nerd Peter Brand.  Brad Pitt plays Billy Bean and I have to say he's never been this good before, relaxed and yet with a focused intensity. Jonah Hill also shines as Peter Brand and I can see why he picked up a nomination.   Really this is an achievement in fine film making, telling a story that at first one wouldn't think very cinematic but turns out to be breathtaking. Grade: A-
