My Grading System
A+ = Masterpiece (I hold back on this one.) / A = Great. / A- = Really Good. / B+ = Good. / B = Decent (Serviceable). / B- = Flawed but okay (For those times there's something redeeming about the work). / C+ = Not very good (Skip it). C = Bad. / C- = Awful. / F = Complete Disaster (I hold back on this one too).
Note on Spoilers: I will try to avoid ruining a story by going into too much detail. But if I wish to include some revealing points to my analysis I will try to remember to add a separate spoiler paragraph.

Stormy Monday (1988)
Mike Figgis' film debut is much different than his more known film Leaving Las Vegas. Stylized to be a kind of film noir it tells the story of a young man wanting a job at a Jazz Club in Newcastle, England and how he gets mixed up with a corrupt American businessman's moll and other mobster types. It does feel like a Jazz song in many ways, emitting mood and sex. I'll be upfront and admit that I've never been a big Melanie Griffith fan but she's not terrible and her chemstry with Sean Bean works on many levels. Tommy Lee Jones delivers a decent although forgettable performance as does Sting as the Jazz club owner. Overall it's a mildly successful film that I felt missed the mark in trying to be as cool as your typical film noir. Grade: B
