My Grading System

A+ = Masterpiece (I hold back on this one.) / A = Great. / A- = Really Good. / B+ = Good. / B = Decent (Serviceable). / B- = Flawed but okay (For those times there's something redeeming about the work). / C+ = Not very good (Skip it). C = Bad. / C- = Awful. / F = Complete Disaster (I hold back on this one too).

Note on Spoilers: I will try to avoid ruining a story by going into too much detail. But if I wish to include some revealing points to my analysis I will try to remember to add a separate spoiler paragraph.

Spring in a Small Town (1948)

A classic of Chinese cinema, this melodrama depicts the emotional struggle of a woman who reunites with an old boyfriend and how she reflects on her marriage with an ailing man she never truly loved, although she cares about him deeply. I love old films like these that feel so contemporary. They’re classic examples of how a good story told well can stand the test of time. I truly hope films like this one get preserved for future generations, always. It’s a beautiful drama. Grade: A-
